Our Annual South Florida Congressional Delegation Night was established to acknowledge and show our appreciation for the great support our political leaders have given to PortMiami and Port Director Juan Kuryla and his staff. At the same time, this event spotlights and supports PortMiami and Director Kurykla and looks to further gain and strengthen the support of the South Florida Congressional Delegation regarding PortMiami’s needs and wants.
Congressional Delegation Night 2017 honored Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen who has been a huge supporter of both PortMiami and the Port of the Miami River during her 30-year political career. As Rep. Ros-Lehtinen will be retiring when her current term in Congress is completed, it was particularly appropriate that she be so honored.
The Congressional Delegation Night has quickly become our biggest fundraising event of the year thanks in large part to the many cruise lines and cargo companies that have been Sponsors. While this event has been very helpful in expanding our membership and especially targets the cruise and cargo industries, the main benefit it brings are the resources that increase our financial support of the two Student Propeller Clubs we sponsor – the University of Miami and Miami Dade College. In addition the funds generated from the Congressional Delegation Night are used to help promote and support both the local maritime and logistics/supply chain management industries.
